Februay 12, 2014 It's nice to be appreciated. But it's even better to be fully funded! In a recent letter, Commissioner Jack Murray, Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), expressed his appreciation for our inviting him to the sixth annual Friends Network conference.

December 11, 2013- Thank you to everyone who attended the Friends Network's Sixth Annual Conference. We had our largest turnout ever with 55 attendees, comprising: 46 Friends groups' volunteers; 8 DCR Friends; and one very special Civilian Conservation Corps Alumnus. Twenty-three different Friends groups were represented at this year's conference.

December 1, 2013 -  Who is coming to the Friends Network 2013 Annual Conference?Groups and individuals who regularly volunteer to enhance our forests, parks, beaches and trails will spend the day sharing their success and working on their challenges. If you care about state parks, you are welcome to join your friends at the Focus on Friends conference on December 7.

Orfant, Resource Management Planning (RMP) – How Friends groups can help develop an RMP and Friends groups' roles in protecting natural and cultural resources, DCR Bureau of Ranger Services Acting Chief Ranger Chris Williams, DCR Rangers' Duties and Jurisdiction, and YOU!

October 28, 2013 - Join your Friends at the 6th Annual Friends Network Conference where we will Focus on Friends! Come share your successes and challenges as a volunteer for Massachusetts' forests, parks, beaches and trails with other volunteers like you.

September 29, 2013, This year's Friends Network conference will Focus on Friends. Friends groups will spend a day sharing their successes and discussing their most pressing challenges. Friends who have successfully met challenges will tell the rest of us how they did it. You'll find the support you need or you may be able to help others accomplish good works that benefit all of our parks. Friends throughout the Commonwealth will work together to identify initiatives leading to world-class forests and parks in Massachusetts.

The Friends Network is an all volunteer group of citizens who believe our state parklands and trails benefit from strong public involvement. July 7, 2013, Come honor the men who laid the cornerstone for the Massachusetts State Parks system, and enjoy a day of fun. A recognition ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by a celebration at noon, with anniversary cake and displays in the CCC Headquarters building.

June 28, 2013, On June 27, 2013 the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EOEEA) replaced the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) website. As a result, the previous links to many of the DCR webpages and documents no longer work. If you are a Friends group with online links to DCR websites and documents, you will need to re-link to those sites and information sources.

June 26, 2013, With the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) draft Volunteers in Parks Program Guide, released for the second time, we dedicate this newsletter to Emily Norton. Emily founded the Friends of Willard Brook in 2004, served multiple terms as president and remains active in the group today. Realizing early on how Friends groups are hobbled by the high costs of liability insurance, Emily spearheaded legislation intended to benefit all Friends groups.

March 15, 2013, DCR is taking comments on its Response to the Forest Heritage Planning Process and the Science and Technical Advisory Committee Final Report that will allow commercial logging in the Quabbin Forest to resume.
